Xi inspects steelmaker in northeast China
Chinese President Xi Jinping has inspected a steelmaker in Benxi city, Liaoning Province in northeast China.
On Thursday afternoon, President Xi, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, inspected Bensteel, a subsidiary controlled by major Chinese steel producer Angang Steel.
He visited the company's control center and production line to learn about its transition and efforts on high-quality development.
Earlier on Thursday, President Xi inspected Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning province.
He visited a food market and a residential community to learn about the supply of goods during the holiday season.
President Xi also inspected the measures in place to meet residents' daily needs and improve their livelihood.
President Xi's trip to northeast China came just before this year's Spring Festival, which falls on next Wednesday.
Commerce ministry to boost opening-up, ease market access in 2025
The Chinese Commerce Ministry says it will boost opening-up and ease market access this year.
Officials say the country will steadily advance the opening-up of the service industry after lifting all foreign investment restrictions in the manufacturing sector.
A Commerce Ministry spokesperson says China will also promote pilot programs in fields such as telecommunications, health care and education.
Judge in Washington state blocks Trump's order on birthright citizenship
A U.S. federal judge has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's executive order to revoke the birthright citizenship policy, calling it unconstitutional.
The court's restraining order presents a challenge to Trump's sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration, and prevents his policy from being enforced nationwide for 14 days.
The president has said he would appeal.
Hundreds of relief convoys rush into Gaza
On Day 5 of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement, hundreds of relief convoys loaded with food, medicine, and clothing continued to pour into Gaza.
Humanitarian aid trucks are entering through Rafah, the main location linking the Gaza Strip to the outside world.
Turkish Airlines resumes Damascus flights after 13-year hiatus
Turkish Airlines has resumed direct flights to Damascus, ending a nearly 13-year hiatus.
The carrier will operate three weekly flights from Istanbul to Damascus.
The resumption comes amid a broader regional push to normalize ties with the Syrian government, which has faced international isolation since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011.
Turkish Airlines last flew to Syria in March, 2012, shortly before the conflict escalated.
Chinese delegation holds meeting to mark official establishment
China has announced its delegation for the Harbin Asian Winter Games which is set to kick off on February 7.
The delegation consists of 257 people, including 170 athletes.
This is the third time that China has participated as the host country.
The Chinese athletes will compete in all 64 events.
Many of them have participated at the Beijing Winter Olympics, including champions Gu Ailing and Xu Mengtao.
China claims men's 5000m relay title at Turin FISU Winter Universiade
Chinese skaters have won gold in the short track speed skating men's 5000m final of the Winter University Games.
It was the first title for China in Turin, ending South Korea's hope of sweeping all the nine golds of the sport at the Games.
China also won the silver medal earlier in the women's 3000m relay.
