This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chinese motion pictures. In 1905, China's first homemade silent movie was born in a Beijing photo studio. As 2005 draws to a close, so does a year of activities marking the big anniversary.

China's Film Industry Records 600m US Dollars Revenue In 2005

China's film industry produced 260 movies creating a total 600 million US dollars in revenue in 2005, up 150 million dollars from last year.

Three Year-End Films Get Mixed Reviews

Competition for the year-end film market is gradually heating up. Currently, the three major players are Chen Kaige's The Promise, Zhang Yimou's Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles, and A Chinese Tall Story shot by Hong Kong director Jeff Lau.
