CRI opened its first overseas office in Tokyo on December 2nd, 1980, when the station was known as Radio Beijing. Since then, English Service overseas offices have been established around the globe, from Washington to New York, Sydney, London, and Doha. There have been 39 CRI English Service reporters working overseas in seven countries and Hong Kong.
