| In May 1990, CRI's English Service started the bimonthly,
four-color newsletter, The Messenger,
with an eye toward strengthening ties with listeners. The publication
is delivered to overseas listeners, and to foreigners in China who
work at embassies or consulates, foreign-owned and joint-venture companies,
as well as students, teachers, journalists and tourists, or those
who request it. It brings them information about Radio Beijng's (the
former name of CRI) present and the plans for the future. |

| In May 2000, The
Messenger celebrated its 10th birthday in. To
mark the occasion, among other things The Messenger spruced up the
paper with a fresh look. The updated look is better serving the audience.
CRI has seen tremendous modernization and change over the years. The
Messenger wanted the new masthead and layout to reflect that. Also
China has also undergone many changes in recent years. The lives of
the nation's people are constantly improving, The Messenger seeks
to reflect that in its contents. |
