Surrogate Pregnancy to Cost over USD12,500 in Shanghai

It was reported that two "surrogate pregnancy" websites in Zhejiang and Jiangsu have recently set up representative offices in Shanghai and appointed agents to represent them. Local residents only need to spend several hundred thousand RMB to hire someone to sire a child for them; the highest remuneration for surrogate mothers can reach 100,000 RMB (USD12,500).

According to surveys, surrogate mothers are "ranked and qualified" according to their educational achievement and looks. Remuneration, the so-called "compensation for loving heart" ranges from 40,000 to 100,000 RMB, separated into 9 classes, from A to I.
Because Chinese people still generally subscribe to the concept of continuing their ancestral lineage, "surrogate pregnancy service" can enable infertile persons to use this "service" to continue his familial line.
However, the report quotes local legal experts who said that the contract signed by both parties does not have the force and effect of law and surrogate mothers will find it hard to protect their legal rights.
