China's weight loss market has been flourishing in recent years, as the country's obesity problem has risen. Statistics show that last year, 30 per cent of the total population in China's big cities was overweight, compared with 21 per cent in 1992.

He is expecting to double the number of outlets this year.
"Weight loss is only one of the benefits from the Taoist regimen we emphasis it to catch consumers' eyes," Wang says, adding the primary goal is to enable people to enjoy a more healthy lifestyle.
"It is becoming a trend that many Chinese people appeal to professionals to help them lose weight and look more beautiful," says Yuan Hao, assistant manager of Hong Kong-based Silyal Cosmetics Co.
The company started to co-operate with beauty salons in the mainland late last year, to promote their weight loss products.
It is working with more than 100 beauty salons so far.
According to Zhao from the weight loss website, the industry began to boom three years ago and has great development potential.
During the three-day China Weight Loss Exhibition, which was held a month ago in Beijing, more than 200 exhibitors attracted about 30,000 visitors from all over the country.
Business contracts worth 80 million yuan (US$9.8 million) were signed during the exhibition.
However, Zhao warns people should be careful when choosing a weight loss method.
Generally speaking, there are five effective methods: physical movement under the help of weight loss equipments, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, surgery, exercise, and diet.
"Everything has two sides, however. People should select an appropriate way under professional guidance, to avoid unnecessary costs and harm to the body," Zhao warns.
At present, the market is unregulated. Some companies are taking the opportunity to earn cash at all costs, ignoring consumers' long-term benefits.
"Society should establish a right view towards weight loss," Zhao says, adding it should be mainly carried out to help reduce the risk of diseases.
Many people still cannot differentiate between overweight and slightly heavy. Some, especially young girls, want to lose weight just for a slim figure.
A survey by Zhao's website shows only 20 per cent of people who are on weight loss programmes or using related products are doing it for health reasons.
Among those who want to lose weight, 33.8 per cent weigh at normal levels, while 3.8 per cent are even lighter than recommended levels.
