Cellphone Shield in Central University of Finance and Economics

Beijing's Central University of Finance and Economics, or CUFE, is about to limit cellphone signals in all academic buildings on campus. The move has drawn many objections among students.

A notice placed on CUFE's website after the May Day holiday says ringing cellphones pose a great disturbance to teaching and other academic activities, and in order to stop the disruptions the school will install shielding equipment to block all cellphone signals. According to the plan cellphones will be banned in many academic buildings, and students will only be allowed to use cellphones during breaks or when they are not in class.
Students state many concerns about the move, with many saying using a cellphone is their right. They admit it's not proper to use their phones to call someone or send an SMS during class-time, but they say the outright banning of cellphone use is also inappropriate.
