In the old days, China and Africa had always sympathized and supported each other and we forged a profound friendship in the struggle for national liberation. Nowadays, on the basis of the traditional friendship, China and Africa have seized the opportunities for development and are making joint efforts to realize the grand objective of national revitalization.

Under the guiding principles of sincerity, equality and mutual benefit, solidarity and common development, China is actively engaged in African countries national development and is making significant contributions to improve the peoples living standard and providing employment opportunities.

Chinese enterprises are the active participants and play an important role in Chinas assistance to Africas development. These Chinese enterprises pave the smooth roads in African countries; these Chinese enterprises set up high bridges in African countries; these Chinese enterprises build modern office buildings. In conclusion, these Chinese enterprises devote their diligence and talents and write new chapters in the continuous development of China-Africa friendship under the new circumstances.

However, Western nations frequently criticize Chinas African policies when China and Africa are focused on developing a new type of strategic partnership. The Western nations sometimes characterize the Chinese enterprises in Africa as only seeking business benefits and resources without considering African peoples welfare, paying no attention to local environmental protection and meeting other needs.

Therefore, in order to publicize China-Africa friendship in the new era, to affirm the contributions by Chinese enterprises in Africa and to reply to Western criticisms of Chinese enterprises with facts, the Chinese-African Peoples Friendship Association (CAPFA) and the China Radio International (CRI) are planning to jointly launch the China-Africa Friendship Award-the Top Ten Chinese Enterprises in Africa in 2010. This activity will select for recognition ten of the Chinese enterprises that have projects or do business in Africa. The ten selected enterprises should be enterprises that devote significant resources for African countries local economic and social development, fulfill corporate social responsibility and make a positive return to the African local people.

(Note: The purpose of the China-Africa Friendship Award, set up by the CAPFA in 2006 is to commend those Chinese and African personages and groups who have long been engaged in promoting Sino-African friendship with outstanding contributions and who are also influential and well known in China and Africa. The CAPFA has conducted this selection process and granted awards twice-in 2006 and 2009. The Second China-Africa Friendship Award conducted the selection of Ten Chinese Who Deeply Moved the African People and Five African People Who Deeply Moved the Chinese People, H.E. Mr. Kenneth Kaunda, the first President of Zambia, Mr. Luo Hong, the famous environmental photography artist and 13 other Chinese and African personages were honored with award in 2009.
