At 17, Huang and his brother moved to Beijing, setting up a business selling low-end household electronic appliances with a $3,600 bank loan. When high inflation struck the country in 1987, Pengrun's business took off. Today it enjoys a 35% market share in China. Pengrun diversified into Beijing real estate in 1996.
