Dog owners in Beijing have enjoyed a lively May Day with their canine friends as the first dog theme park opened in the capital city.

The Coolbaby Dog Theme Park, located in downtown BeijingĄ¯s Chaoyang Park, claims to be the largest dog theme park in Asia.

Running between plastic pylons, jumping through hoops and swimming are just some of the many activities available to dogs and their owners at the new Dog Theme Park.

Chen Hongsong is a dog owner.

"I think dog owners will be able to build happy relationships with non-dog owners if dogs become more obedient after receiving training."

Dogs have become quite popular among Beijingers. According to local newspapers, there are more than half a million licensed dogs in the city.

With more and more Beijing citizens becoming dog owners, training them to be "show dogs" has become a growing trend.
Coolbaby Dog Theme Park spokesperson Wang Xiaoyun says the park is a great place for dog owners to meet and share their ideas.

"This park will be a platform for people who love dogs and other pets to exchange ideas so they can raise their pets in a better way."
