    2006-02-23 21:45:38      CRIENGLISH.com
China calls for the international society not to cut aid for the newly-elected Palestinian parliament dominated by Hamas, and says it will continue to provide economic assitance for Palestinian people if necessary.

China's foreign ministry spokesperson Liu Jianchao made the comments Thursday in Beijing, clarifying that China has not made contact with Hamas, but is concerned with the difficult situation that Palestinian people face.

"China believes the international society should not take any action to aggravate the Palestinian people's difficult position. China has been providing aid to Palestinian people within our ability, and in the future, if there is more demand in Palestine, China will take it into consideration and treat it seriously."

Liu Jianchao also expresses China's deep concern over the unstable situation in Iraq, saying China hopes Iraq will see a return to peace and stability , and development in various sectors.

"On the political side, Iraq should realize self-government and let the Iraqi people decide their future. Regarding the economy, Iraq needs to achieve economic rehabilitation as soon as possible , in order to strengthen the nation's internal functions, and be self-sufficient with its rich natural resources."
