China's Tibet now contains thirty-eight nature reserves, covering over 30 percent of land in the Autonomous Region. That¡¯s over 400,000 square kilometers.

Local officials say the number of wild animal and plant species has increased in these reserves and some rare animals have begun returning to their habitats.
Averaging over 4,000 meters above sea level, Tibet has a unique geographic environment. However, its ecosystem is fragile and is difficult to restore once it has been destroyed.
