It was closed for four months during the renovation which cost some 67 million Yuan or 8 million US dollars.

The name Norbulingka means “treasure garden” in the Tibetan language, and the park is famed for its natural beauty and as an example of the unique Tibetan culture.

It boasts many palaces and pavilions, as well as a lake and a zoo.

It was listed as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO in 1994.
