UIM Class1 World Powerboat Championship Kicks off in China's Sanya

The 2013 UIM Class1 World Powerboat Championship Grand Prix kicked off on Thursday in China's resort city of Sanya, the first time for the event to land in China.

The 2013 UIM Class1 World Powerboat Championship Grand Prix kicked off on Thursday in China's resort city of Sanya, the first time for the event to land in China.

Nine teams from England, Italy, Australia, Norway and a couple of other countries and regions joined the three-day race.

On Thursday, they began the pole position contest. Team Victory started in the first place with the fastest lap time of three minutes and four seconds with Zabo-Isiklar and Victory Australia powered by hub in the second and third places.

The 36-year-old Norwegian Mariette, the first women racer in the event, took part in the race on behalf of Team Visun Sanya.

"This is the sixth time for me to race in China and I feel very happy to race on behalf of Sanya," Mariette said.

The 2013 UIM World Aquabike Class Pro-Freestyle Grand Prix of Sanya will kick off on Friday.
