Zhang Jianqiang graduated from Beijing Sports University and stayed there to work as a teacher. He began working for the China Football Association (CFA) in 1992 and has long been engaged in the management of youth and women's football.
Zhang was also in charge of referee arrangements for Chinese football matches.
He worked as Secretary General of CFA's Referees' Committee and was a member of the Asian Football Association (AFC) Referees' Committee.
Zhang was taken in by police on January 15 to help with an investigation into match-fixing and gambling scandals. He was charged with match-fixing and bribery on March 1.
