Deng Yaping, Ping Pang World Champion

Deng Yaping (born February 5, 1973) is arguably the greatest female table tennis player of all time. When she retired at the age of 24, she had won more titles than any other player in the sport, including four Olympic gold medals, and had been 18 times world champion in table tennis. She was voted Chinese female athlete of the century.

She was born in Zhengzhou in the Henan province of China. Following her retirement, she was selected a member of the International Olympic Committee in 1997, and is a member of the elite Laureus World Sports Academy, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, as well as working in marketing for the Beijing Olympic games. She gained a Bachelor's degree from Tsinghau University, a Master's Degree from the University of Nottingham, and is currently studying for a further degree at the University of Cambridge.
