Women's Rights Law To Be Strengthened
2005-08-25 07:34:02    CRIENGLISH.com
A 13-year old law on women's rights is to be amended this month to better ensure gender equality.

During a six-day session starting Tuesday, China's top legislature is to amend the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women promulgated in 1992.

Gu Xiulian, senior Chinese legislator and president of China's main women's rights group the All-China Women's Federation said Tuesday that Chinese women have made a great contribution to implementing the opening up and modernization policy, which should be recognized.

She made the statement in a meeting with Chinese women representatives living in Latin America and the Pacific region.

She gave an account of China's economic and social development goals and praised women's work towards "social progress".
