The Supreme People's Court

The Supreme People's Court is the highest judicial organ in China. At state level, there is the Supreme People's Court while the People's High Courts operate in the provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. The People's Medium Courts and local People's Courts operate in smaller jurisdictions. The Supreme People's Court is the highest trial organ. It exercises independent judicial power. It is also the highest supervision organ for local People's Court of every level and special People's Court. The Supreme People's Court is responsible and reports to the NPC and its Standing Committee. The appointment of the President and the Vice President of the Supreme People's Court and the members of its Judicial Committee are decided by the NPC.

The main duties for the Supreme People's Court is to supervise the work of local courts and special courts at every level, to approve death sentences, to overrule wrong judgments they might have made, to decide interrogations and review cases tried by the lower courts, to approve on the criminal case which has been defined in the Criminal Law, to explain the law in the trying process in addition to other duties..

The current President of the Supreme People's Court is Xiao Yang.
