Having long been known as a fairyland, Penglai is one of the three superna-tural mountains inhabited by immortals. The famous legend of "Eight immortals crossing the sea" finds its origin here. It is said that the eight immortals got drunk at Penglai Pavilion and crossed the sea by different tricks of their own without ships or boats. Their performance left a popular saying that "like the Eight Immortals crossing the sea, each one showing his or her special feats."

Travel Tips
Domestic flights connect Yantai with more than 20 major cities in China, such as Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou. "The railway station and its vicinity must have cheap beds." This is also true to Yantai. Yantai is the birthplace of Shandong cuisine, the food here is most famous for its abundance of sea food.
Yantai is a ice-free port located on the eastern half of the Shandong Peninsula. April to October is the best time to visit Yantai, a coastal city with moderate summers, mild winters.
