Over 2,000 years, Chengdu has remained a city of great importance in Southwest China, politically, economically and militarily. Many feudal powers in southwest China founded their capital in Chengdu.
Later in the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368), the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it remained the location of government for Sichuan province. It was also the Sichuan capital during the Republic of China (1912-1949).

They brought with them businesspeople, workers and academics, who founded many of the industries and cultural institutions that continue to make Chengdu an important city in southwest China.
The city's industrial base is very broad, including light and heavy manufacturing, aluminum smelting and chemicals. The textile industry remains important, with cotton and wool milling added to the traditional silk brocade and satin production.
After the foundation of the People's Republic of China, Chengdu was chosen as the provincial capital for Sichuan province. Nowadays, Chengdu has become one of the largest cities of China. Every year, its beautiful landscape and delicious food attract millions of tourists from all over the world.
