Scenic Spots in Xishuangbanna
Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden
About 80 kilometers away from Jinghong city, in the town of Menglun in Menglai county is the Menglun tropical botanical garden. It is the largest tropical botanical garden in China. Established in 1959, the garden boasts more than 4000 species of tropical plants covering an area of 900 hectares, many of which are rare elsewhere.
The Dai Ethnic Garden
The Dai Ethnic Garden is in Ganlan basin 30 kilometers away from Jinghong city. In the garden is a natural Dai village. The villagers are all hospitable and friendly. Tourists are welcome to stay overnight in a Dai household to receive the host and hostess' hospitality and to take part in their routine farm work, amidst the landscape of rural scenery, and there is also a century-old Manchunman monastery nearby.
The Wild Elephant Ravine
In the Sanchehe forest park of the Mengyang nature reserve, about 50km away from Jinghong, there is a Wild Elephant Ravine which boasts 70 wild elephants who frequent the stream for drinking, bathing and enjoying the water. "Hotels in the tree" have been built for tourists to quietly view the elephants from above.
Guests are welcome stay in the tree dwellings and wait for the arrival of a herd of elephants while relaxing in the fresh air, viewing the tropical rainforest and enjoying the sounds of nature.
