Some Geography
A volcano is a geological landform, usually a mountain, where magma (rock of the earth's interior made molten or liquid by high pressure and temperature) erupts through the surface of the planet. Although there are numerous volcanoes (some very active) on the solar system's various rocky planets and moons, on Earth at least, this phenomenon tends to occur near the boundaries of continental plates. Volcanic activity is often accompanied by earthquakes, hot springs, fumaroles, mud pots and geysers.
On the Road
To explore the dazzling geo-world of volcanoes along the Tea Horse Road, visit Tengchong on the southwestern border of Yunnan. Besides the national volcano park, hot springs, jade wares and Heshun village, well known as the hometown of overseas Chinese, are also all within reach during your trip.
