Xi Xia or Western Xia was a state that existed in what are now the Chinese provinces of Gansu, Ningxia and Shaanxi. It flourished between approximately 1032 until 1227, when it was destroyed by the Mongols of Genghis Khan. Xia is always sometimes known as Hsia. It is yet another example of a once powerful country and people that has now almost completely disappeared from public consciousness.

Travel Tips
Yinchuan sits in the mid beaches of the Yellow River, between the Helanshan Range and the Eerduosi Plateau. Though it's located in the inland area, the developed transport system makes Yinchuan easy to reach. Visitors can find decent places to stay in both the newer and older parts of Yinchuan city.
Yinchuan is located in the dry temperate zone, with a typical continental temperate climate. The materials and flavor of the food in Ningxia are strongly affected by those of the neighboring areas. Ningxia is famous for five "treasures" and tourists can find all of them in Yinchuan.
