On an earlier Spring day, eighteen bird watchers arrived at Yeyahu Lake (Wild Duck Lake) near the Guanting Reservoir in Yanqing County in Northwestern Beijing. Yeyahu Lake is the largest wetland in north China, it compromises lakes, ponds, swamps and grassland which, in all, stretch to a vast 1.5 million square meters. The hospitable environment makes it an ideal choice for many migratory birds. It is estimated that over 150 kinds of wild bird species choose the wetland as stopping point during their migration. This, naturally, makes the lake an ideal place to watch birds.
