The ecosystem of ponds throughout Beijing makes for an ideal home for many animals, especially birds. Ponds can be found throughout the city, such as in the Summer Palace, Yuanmingyuan, and Lianhuachi (Lotus Pond) Park. In addition to the long-term dwellers, in Spring some migratory birds join the ponds for mating.
