US President Barack Obama has admitted the worst mistake of his presidency was a lack of planning for the aftermath of the 2011 toppling of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

He said so in a recent Fox News interview, with host Chris Wallace.
"Worst mistake?"
"Probably failing to plan for the day after what I think was the right thing to do in intervening in Libya."

The US and other countries carried out bombing campaigns in Libya during the 2011 uprising.

But after the former Libyan leader was killed, the country plunged into chaos with militias taking over and two rival parliaments and governments forming.

So how is Obama's review of his presidency being received by political analysts? What impact did the US intervention in Libya have on the region and the world? And what might the prospects for Middle Eastern countries such as Libya and Syria look like in the post-Obama era?
