2014-08-01 Decline of Japanese Consumer Electronic Empire
   2014-08-01 10:17:05    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Ding Heng

Consumer electronics have put Japan on the map. From TVs and refrigerators, to mobile phones and cameras, Japanese consumer electronics once conquered the world. But not any more. Beset by traditional giants like Apple and challenged by rising powerhouses like Samsung, Japanese companies are in retreat. Take Sony, the jewel on the crown of the Japanese electronics industry, for example: the company has posted losses for five of the past 6 years. It also cut VAIO, its personal computer arm, which has attracted a great number of loyal followers. Other Japanese companies, such as Toshiba, Sharp and Panasonic are facing similar structural problems.

So what has caused the decline of Japanese consumer electronic companies? What can be learned from the industry's past?
