2014-03-05 How to Make Urbanization More Eco-friendly in China
   2014-03-04 17:49:15    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Lu Chang

The scale and speed with which China has pushed urbanization is unprecedented. According to some estimates, 350 million people will be added to the country's urban population by 2030. As urbanization continues to unfold, the grand project will have a far reaching impact on China. Urbanization is expected to become a new driver for economic growth, with infrastructure construction necessary to support new cities and towns. Socially, urbanization can be a huge blessing for the new immigrants vying for a higher standard of living.

However, what are the environmental costs? Severe pollution that is only getting worse in China's urban areas has raised greater public awareness toward eco-friendly urban development. It is vital for the government to take eco-urbanization seriously from their very inception of the new cities and towns that are expected to sprout up with economic growth.

How can we make China's urbanization more sustainable? More specifically, what areas should we look at in order to steer urbanization in a more sustainable direction?
