   2013-12-04 17:32:30    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Chen Cong

Hello and welcome to People in the Know, I'm Paul James sitting in for Zheng Chenguang.

According to official statistics, China's information consumption volume reached more than 1.7 trillion yuan back in 2012. The figure also indicates a year-on-year growth of 29 percent.

The Chinese State Council has issued a document earlier this year on further boosting the country's domestic information consumption. According to the document, China is expected to have an information consumption volume of over 3.2 trillion yuan by 2015.

So, is the timing fully mature for China to stimulate its information consumption? How big a role can the industry play in the overall Chinese economy? What are the remaining obstacles for future development?

Ni Hao, you're listening to  People In the Know, bringing you insights into the headlines in China and around the world.

In this program, we speak to Professor Liu Baocheng, Director for the Center for International Business Ethics at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, and Professor William Dutton, Professor of Internet Studies at the Oxford Internet Institute of University of Oxford.
