Five years after the financial crisis, the U.S. economy has posted moderate growth. It might be too early to tell whether this a sign of strong recovery or a false dawn, but it is the right time for the U.S. to assess its endeavor to get its financial house in order and avoid repeating past mistakes.

Across the Pacific, U.S.-China relations are often described as the most complicated relationship intertwined by a labyrinth of international politics. Being the world's largest and second largest economies, respectively, but with different social systems, political beliefs and foreign policy doctrines, this bilateral relationship is bound to be characterized by both cooperation and disputes.

China has envisioned its ties with the U.S. to follow a new model of major-country relationships, one that is marked by no conflict or confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation. This vision is also echoed by U.S. leaders. However, the devil is in the details; it would take great wisdom and effort from both sides to keep bilateral ties on a stable track.

Is the US economy bouncing back? How can China and the U.S. get their relations in order?

Ni Hao, you're listening to  People In the Know, bringing you insights into the headlines in China and around the World. I'm Zheng Chenguang in Beijing.
