US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns has met with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi here in Beijing.
Yang Jiechi says the two touched on bilateral and international issues.
"We hope that in this new era, the two sides will work together to deepen our dialogue and trust, expand cooperation, properly handle our differences, so that the China-US relationship will move forward in a healthy and steady way."
Burns is scheduled to visit Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Mongolia as part of his tour in the region.
In recent weeks, a number of high-ranking US officials have visited Beijing, including US Secretary of State John Kerry and US Joint Chiefs of Staff chair Martin Dempsey.
