The world's media has focused attention on the successful launch of China's Shenzhou-9 spacecraft. Many have commented on the historic significance of the event.

Cable News Network (CNN) says it's a historic launch, and if everything goes well, Shenzhou-9 will dock with China's space station, becoming the third country to complete a space docking mission, alongside the US and Russia. It's also a historic moment because China is sending its first female astronaut into space and there are great hopes for the development of China's aerospace industry.

Zeit Online says China¡¯s Shenzhou-9 has created two "firsts", it's the first time for a Chinese woman to be sent on a space mission and the first time a manual docking test will be carried out with Tiangong-1.

The Financial Times reports that China plans to build its own permanently manned space station by 2020, which will become the only permanent space station after the International Space Station retires.

Kyodo News Service says China's space mission will last 13 days, the longest space travel record for a manned mission. It comments on the importance of the docking technology used, which is a prerequisite for the building of China's space station.

Yonhap Infomax says China has ushered in a new era of space technology development and has made great progress since the launch of Shenzhou-5 in 2003.
