Discovery Channel Announces Portraits of China Series

Earlier the Discovery Channel announced plans to produce a five-part series, PORTRAITS: CHINA 每 PROFILING THE CHINESE DREAM, with the support of BMW China. The series will profile five iconic individuals who represent China's dreams and aspirations for the future.
Ying Ying has more. The Discovery Channel is launching a nationwide search for suitable candidates for the series, in cooperation with SINA.com, one of China's major portal sites. The candidates should be iconic Chinese individuals who personify the dreams of modern day China, whether through their personalities, abilities, achievements, or areas of expertise, while reflecting the spirit of a country that is part of a global community.
One hundred potential candidates will be selected based on various criteria, and viewers can vote for the final five online. The final decision will be made by the Discovery Channel, though comments from online users will be taken into consideration. Each episode of PORTRAITS: CHINA 每 PROFILING THE CHINESE DREAM will tell the inspiring story of each individual, highlight their unique contributions to China and to society, and how they envision their dreams becoming reality. These inspiring dreams of an industrious and rising China will be presented to Discovery's audience through this series.
Viewers are also invited to submit photos, videos, and descriptions of their own dreams and stories through the SINA platform. Thirty of the most remarkable and moving stories will be selected and featured as 30-second short films. These will also be broadcast on Discovery Channel when PORTRAITS: CHINA 每 PROFILING THE CHINESE DREAM premieres.

Liu Wei, an armless pianist, singer, and winner of the first season of 'China's Got Talent' was also present at the press conference, representing the many hopeful candidates that will be vying for the one hundred spots. At the press event, Liu Wei shared his dream and called on viewers to cast their votes for the final five candidates.
More than 20 hours of China-related programming have been produced since 2004, including the Discovery Channel's CHINA'S MAN MADE MARVELS and ULTIMATE OLYMPICS series. From China's rich history and culture to modern architectural wonders, these programs showcase the best of China to the global audience.
PORTRAITS: CHINA 每 PROFILING THE CHINESE DREAM will be produced by Infocus Asia for the Discovery Channel.
