Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. The island nation is situated at the crossroads of three continents ¨C Europe, Asia and Africa. A short boat ride connects Cyprus to Athens, Lebanon, and Israel. This geographic position has historically played an important part in the island's turbulent history.
Cyprus is a small country with a long history and a rich culture. Not surprisingly, UNESCO has included several Cyprus destinations, such as the Pafos antiquities, Choirokoitia and ten of the Byzantine period churches of Troodos in its list of World Heritage Sites. Cyprus is often called the Historical Museum of Middle East and Europe.
With 320 days of sunshine and beautiful sea views, Europeans come to Cyprus for vacation starting in March.
Traveling from the eastern part of the island to the west takes about 2 hours, and renting a bicycle is considered a perfect way to explore Cyprus. Along the way, tourists can visit the ancient historical sites and trace the roots of the Goddess Venus.

"Cyprus is the home of the Goddess Venus, she was born from the waves in Pafos. Venus can bless people with fertility. We have a big temple; many different activities were held here," Neoklis Sylikiotis explained. "Also, there is a spring pool where people can gain sweet love through a taste of the water."
On this small but culturally rich island, people are honest and hospitable. If they like you, they may pay your bills even if you have never been introduced. Don't be surprised if a stranger clears your bill, smiles at you and waves to say goodbye. Without any special reason to refuse, it is better to accept the favor.

"It's a way of showing their hospitality. In the village, local people think it's a must to entertain foreign friends. They may also offer some traditional Cyprus food. With thousands of years of culture, we have more than 30 cuisines." Neoklis Sylikiotis added. "We have many kinds of Chinese food in Cyprus too; my favorite Chinese food is roast duck." There is a saying on the island, "It's impolite to leave before the coffee gets cold."
Even though France is more famous for its wine, Neoklis Sylikiotis confidently says Cyprus has the world's best wine, because of its grapes, "For over a thousand years, we have been drinking the wine produced in our villages. All of the grapes we have are organic, without any chemical manure. The price is quite affordable and reasonable, which ranges from 2 -12 Euros."
For potato lovers, Cyprus is definitely a good destination. The red soil makes the potatoes taste very sweet. Most of the food is cooked with olive oil. Although the island offers many fast food restaurants, local people prefer to have pork kebabs, which are cheap and tasty.
When Neoklis Sylikiotis mentions his trip to the Shanghai Expo, praises the organization of the Expo and the excellent volunteers. He is quite impressed by China Pavilion and saying that the pavilion showcases the achievements China has made during recent years. Also, by visiting the Expo, he hopes people learn that today's behavior will have profound effects for our children and grandchildren.
"We don't own the earth; just borrow the earth from the next generation," Neoklis Sylikiotis explained. "In Cyprus, we attach great importance to environment protection. Almost every family has installed solar power, we don't have to consume electricity, and we classify trash, and try not to rely on chemicals, instead favoring green food. People's old clothes can be recycled too."
