Between now and the end of March your old jeans could be worth some cash, and make a contribution to a good cause.
Levi Jeans, the Beijing Huayu Education Fund, IDS Logistics Group and Giving Hand are offering a unique opportunity to shoppers-200 Kuai-or about 30 US Dollars for your old denims.
"The consumer comes to the store with a pair of used jeans - any colour, any brand - they only have to be clean and complete, and we will give them a discount of 200 RMB (on a new pair)," said Wang Xiaoxi of Levi Strauss and Company.
She said the two week old project has been a great success with more than 10,000 pairs of jeans handed in so far.
Bringing all the elements together is Giving Hand, a Chengdu based non-profit that specializes in linking donor companies with worthwhile causes-and then arranging all the logistics.
Giving Hand¡¯s Bobbi Fisher spoke to us by phone.
"One of the wonderful things Giving Hand can do is help donors find free logistics," she said. "IDS, a company here in China, has been helping with the donation of all the Levi's jeans.
The used jeans will get a new lease on life through the Beijing Huayu Education Fund, who will be distributing the garments to needy students in China¡¯s western regions.
"In this project we are helping Levi's to distribute the jeans to some remote and poverty stricken areas," said the foundation's Yue Li., "So we very much appreciate Levi¡¯s generosity in this event."
The promotion runs until March 26th.
So if there is still life in those old denims, get them off and pass them on.
