Tobacco control is always a difficult subject for law makers. Despite having been proven to be harmful to people's health, cigarettes remain in wide circulation, with governments around the world seemingly unable, or perhaps, unwilling to give up the massive taxes that the tobacco industry pays. Still, there appears to be a growing movement -- including here in China -- to control tobacco sales. So with that in mind, on today's show we'll be talking about the tobacco industry.
Guests on phone:
1, Matthew Kohrman, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies Stanford University. He's currently doing research on the tobacco industsry here in China.
