Beijing has banned live poultry from other parts of the country from entering the city, two days after a 19-year-old woman died of bird flu.
According to Deng Xiaohong, the spokeswoman for the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, people who had close contact with the dead has been under monitoring and no abnormal conditions were reported so far.
"So far, experts haven't found any biological foundation of the human-to-human spreads of bird flu virus. The possibility of human-to-human case in Beijing is nearly zero."
China has reported the case to the World Health Organization and informed the health authorities of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.
The State Agriculture Ministry organized experts to carry out an epidemiological survey in farms, poultry markets of Beijing and neighbouring Tianjin city and Hebei Province after the incident. All the samples were tested negative.
The ministry also asked local authorities to strengthen the poultry examination and disinfection efforts.
