Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa on Wednesday called for a withdrawal of foreign troops from war-torn Iraq.

Speaking to reporters following a two-day Arab summit held in the Sudanese capital, Moussa said that presence of foreign troops in Iraq is one of factors attributing to the volatile situation there.

As for the stalled political reconstruction process in Iraq, Moussa said there is a must for all parties concerned to protect what has been achieved democratically in the country.
 
The AL chief, who was just elected to serve a second five-year term as the secretary general at the summit, also expressed that the 22-member pan-Arab forum is willing to lend a hand to the Iraqis to help safeguard their interests, referring to preparations made by the league to convene an Iraqi reconciliation conference later this year.

Arab leaders and diplomats wrapped up their Khartoum summit on Wednesday after adopting a declaration, part of which called for respect of Iraq's sovereignty, independence and freedom.
