6 Killed in Violence in Pakistan's Karachi

At least six people including two women and two alleged militants were killed and several others injured in separate incidents of violence in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Tuesday, local media and police said.

Nasir Aftab, senior superintendent police, said that two suspected militants were killed during a joint operation launched by Anti Violence Crime Cell (AVCC) and police in Sohrab Goth area of Karachi in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Six militants were preparing explosives in a house to attack polio eradication teams when police raided it on intelligence tip off, engaging the miscreants in a gun battle, he said.

During the exchange of firing, two militants were killed and four others fled the scene.

A policeman also sustained injuries during the clash and was shifted to a nearby hospital.

Aftab said that police have seized 10 kg of explosives, two hand grenades and detonators during the operation.

Samaa TV said that in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, a woman was killed in firing by armed men.

Police said that the woman was shot down by land mafia over some land dispute, and they have arrested seven suspects.

In other incidents, body of a 28-year-old woman was recovered from Orangi Town while one dead body each was found from Lea Market and New Karachi areas.

Another man was shot down in firing by unknown gunmen in North Nazimabad area of the city.
