Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara on Monday declared a "merciless" war against all those trouble-makers who have created an impression of insecurity in the country.

While addressing the nation from Abidjan on the eve of celebrations to mark Cote d'Ivoire's 52nd independence anniversary, Ouattara condemned the violence that has broken out in the country in the recent past whereas efforts were still being made to restore security.

"We shall not accept neither disorder nor injustice that is going on due to impunity," the president said while acknowledging that there were incidents of insecurity in the country.

"We are working to reform the security sector and we are determined to guarantee the security of our citizens," he insisted.

"We want to carry out only one duty, that of ensuring Cote d'Ivoire's development and prosperity," he concluded.

In the recent past, Cote d'Ivoire has suffered from a wave of attacks from unknown armed people who have targeted military barracks and killed a total of 11 soldiers.

On Sunday morning, five soldiers were killed during an attack that was carried out at a police station and a military camp in Yopougon district, west of Abidjan.

On the same day, and almost at the same hour, a military barracks was attacked at Abengourou, in the east of the country, but there was no victim.

One of Cote d'Ivoire's most important military camps at Akouedo in eastern Abidjan was attacked on Monday morning by unknown armed assailants who killed six soldiers and left many others injured

On Monday afternoon, the Cote d'Ivoire president called an emergency meeting with the top military leadership, during which he gave instructions for reinforcement of security measures.
