Fresh clashes between Yemeni government forces and opposition militia killed two fighters in the restive southern province of Taiz Monday evening, two days after a ceasefire was reached to halt the violence that had killed more than 30 people, medics said.

"Two opposition fighters were killed and five others were wounded during the clashes," said a local medic hours after a protester was shot dead during a march calling for the prosecution against outgoing President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

An opposition official in Taiz told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that Saleh's forces captured 20 gunmen of the opposition militia in Hasab neighborhood during the clashes on Monday evening.

Taiz, about 200 km south of Sanaa, is a hotbed of anti-Saleh movement.

The fighting came a day after Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi formed a reconciliation military committee with equal seats from the rival military generals to oversee the ceasefire.

Yemen has been gripped by political crisis since late January when protests demanding an end to Saleh's 33-year rule erupted.

The opposition coalition and the ruling party agreed on Nov. 23 on a Gulf-brokered deal designed to end the 11-month-long turmoil. According to the power-transfer deal, Saleh will retain a title of honorary president for 90 days before resignation and enjoy immunity from prosecution.
