A South Korean army helicopter made an emergency landing on a mountain during an annual military exercise Wednesday, killing one army officer and injuring another, local media reported.

The crash in the city of Wonju, some 140 kilometers east of Seoul, killed a 46-year-old warrant officer surnamed Hong and injured a 42-year-old major surnamed Cho, according to YTN TV in Seoul.

The two men were engaged an air strike drill as part of the annual "Hoguk Exercise" that has been conducted across the country since Oct. 27.

The drill, aimed at deterring military threats posed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), is scheduled to end Friday.

Military authorities are reportedly looking into the cause of the accident.
