At least eight people were killed and five others were injured in firing on two passenger buses in restive northwest Pakistan on Friday, local media reported.

According to Urdu TV channel Dunya, some unidentified militants opened fire on two passenger buses in Began area of Hangu, a city close to Pakistan's lawless tribal belt, near the Afghan border, where security forces have been battling al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.

Eight people lost their lives in the firing and five others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to the nearby government-run hospital for treatment.

The two buses were completely destroyed as they caught fire due to firing. Security forces rushed to the site, however, the militants succeeded to flee.

Hangu remains under militants attack due to the presence of a large number of Taliban in the area. Just a week ago, at least eight people lost their lives in firing on a passenger bus.

On Thursday, a suicide car blast claimed five lives and injured 25 others at an attack on a police station in the city.
