France has conducted air strikes on different targets of Libyan government troop, destroying several armored vehicles, according to French military sources.

The strikes, totaling four shots of fire so far, started early Saturday afternoon by French fighter jets of Rafale and Mirage 2000, local media quoted sources from the general staff as saying, adding that the targets destroyed were in the region of Benghazi, the last strong-hold of Libyan rebels.

The first French strike targeted a vehicle believed to belong to Gaddafi troops around 05:45 Paris time (GMT 1645), the spokesman of French general staff Thierry Burckhard told French television channel BFM TV earlier.

Some 20 French warplanes were involved in the operation, including eight Rafale, two Mirage 2000-D, two Mirage 2000-5, some refueling aircraft and some Awacs, airborne warning and control aircraft, according to local media.

The operation, reportedly coordinated with forces of Britain and the United States, would continue to the night, the military source said, but excluding any territorial actions in Libya.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, at an earlier press conference closing the Paris summit, confirmed that French warplanes with some allies' forces were already conducting surveillance mission over Libya in a bid to implement the no-fly zone resolution backed by the 1973 UN resolution.
