Japan on Thursday asked for Indonesia's help to provide additional oil and gas for disaster mitigation following a massive earthquake that triggered strong tsunami last Friday, detikcom online news quoted a Japanese official as saying.

"I have asked Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa so that the Indonesian government provides us with additional energy of liquefied petroleum gas and oil to Japan," said Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Makiko Kikuta.

Kikuta said that following the disasters, the country's nuclear reactors are severely damage, triggering power shortage.

"Our nuclear power plants are ruined and we are significantly lack of power, forcing us to save power," he said after meeting Rajasa.

According to Kikuta, Rajasa has responded his demand seriously.
