Moderate Earthquake Hits Central Japan

A shallow earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 hit Japan's Honshu island at 5:38 a.m. Sunday (2038 GMT Saturday), said the Japan Meteorological Agency.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. No tsunami warning has been issued.

The quake was most strongly felt in Takayama City of Gifu Prefecture in central Japan.

The inland quake hit at a shallow depth of 3.8 kilometers. The epicenter of the quake was around 221 kms west of Tokyo.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake measured 5.2 magnitude.
