The death toll of a suicide car bomb attack targeting an Iraqi army patrol in Iraq's western province of Anbar has risen to six, while 14 others were wounded, a provincial police source said.
The attack took place before sunset when a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into an Iraqi army patrol on a main road in the center of the Fallujah city, some 50 km west of Baghdad, the source from Anbar's operations command told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
"Up to now six people including three soldiers were killed, 14 others were wounded in the deadly attack," the source said, adding several cars and buildings nearby were destroyed during the powerful blast.
Four days ago, the city was the site of a deadly raid by a joint U.S. and Iraqi force on three houses in the city, killing eight people and wounding four others.
Iraq's once most volatile province of Anbar and its flashpoint Fallujah city have been relatively calm for more than three years after Sunni tribes and anti-U.S. insurgent groups turned to cooperate with the U.S. troops and the Iraqi security forces against al-Qaida network in Iraq.
