An Israeli army spokesman said Saturday night that a homemade rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed on an empty area in southern Israel, causing no casualties or damages.

The spokesman told Israeli Radio that Palestinian militants fired a homemade rocket from the Gaza Strip which landed on the outskirts of Hof Ashkol in southern Israel.

By far, no Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier on Saturday, Fatah party armed wing, al-Aqsa brigades, claimed responsibility in a leaflet sent to reporters for firing two homemade rockets at the Kissufim military post on the border between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel.

Last night, around 15 Palestinians were injured in a series of Israeli F-16 warplane airstrikes on different targets in the blockaded Gaza Strip, ruled by Islamic Hamas movement, in response to earlier rocket attacks.

Clashes between Israel and the Palestinians have recently flared up after Israel announced that it would build hundreds of settlement units in East Jerusalem and later reopened an old Synagogue near the al-Aqsa Mosque.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, a 16-year-old Palestinian boy was killed during clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers near the West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) condemned the violence. Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said in a statement that "the incident is part of a series of settlers and soldiers' attacks on our people."

Fayyad urged the international community to "immediately and tangibly act to oblige Israel to abide by the international laws and totally halt settlement activities, mainly in East Jerusalem."
