Brunei has confirmed its first A/H1N1 flu fatality as a 12-year-old girl suffering from chronic complications died on Thursday after contracting the A/H1N1 flu, according to local newspapers.

Brunei Health Minister Suyoi bin Osman said that the girl was admitted to a clinic on June 14 due to her chronic complications of auto-immune hepatitis, end-stage liver failure and pneumonia.

Suyoi said that the girl became critically ill on June 26 as she was tested positive for the flu.

The minister speculated that the A/H1N1 flu accelerated her death.

Suyoi said that the ministry was investigating how the girl got infected by the flu.

He said that the ministry had informed the girl's family members to isolate themselves and to take extra precautions.

Suyoi also urged Bruneians not to bring children under the age of 12 to hospital and health centers.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Health Ministry confirmed 27 new cases of A/H1N1 flu on Thursday, bringing up total cases of the disease to 93 in the country.
