The government on Monday decided to deploy health professionals at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepali capital Kathmandu to screen passengers coming from Mexico and the United States in response to the outbreak of deadly swine flu that has killed more than 100 people in Mexico and spread to some other countries.
A meeting of the Technical Sub-committee on Avian Influenza at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives on Monday afternoon decided to keep a team of health professionals at the airport, give a health-related questionnaire to the passengers returning from Mexico and U.S. and take immediate necessary actions if anyone is suspected to have contracted the flu.
"We also decided to issue a statement for public awareness on swine flu and discussed about the possible measures to be taken in case of an outbreak here," said Shailendra Uprety, director of the Epidemology and Disease Control Division at the Health Ministry. |
